PRESEASON PREVIEW: BUXTON TRAVEL TO THE EMERALD ISLE

UP NEXT:

Buxton continue their pre season preparations with a trip to Ireland where they’ll take on Ballymun United in their third friendly fixture.

The Bucks

Buxton head into the game looking to bounce back from a 4-0 defeat to Forest Green Rovers in a behind closed doors match on Friday.

That result followed a promising start to pre season, as they opened with a 3-1 victory over Barnsley at The Silverlands. Connor Kirby gave the Bucks a first half lead before the Tykes levelled the score, but second-half goals from Johnny Johnston and Tate Campbell sealed the win.

Following the match against Barnsley, manager John McGrath said:

“I thought the lads were excellent. It’s not about the result, but about building good habits. I thought we played really well against a good, young, energetic Barnsley side.

“It was a good game of football, really competitive, which is unusual for a preseason fixture. I was really pleased with everyone’s efforts. It’s step one, preseason game number one in the build-up to August 9th.”

Opposition

Ballymun United are a club based in Dublin that was founded in 1969.

Their stadium is located next to an IKEA at the Ballymun United Soccer Complex.

They are nicknamed “The Mun.”

In their most recent game, they recorded an emphatic 5-1 victory over Dunboyne FC in the Amateur Cup.

In the 2024 Amateur Football League Division 1 North, they won 10 of their 14 games and finished top of the league.

Last Time Out

Buxton have never faced Ballymun United, but they have previously played against Northern Irish opposition.

Back in 1895, they took on Cliftonville in the English Amateur Cup.
